It's getting warmer! Last night we forgot to close the window in the bathroom and I didn't freeze to death. This morning, I woke up early for an am meeting to the sounds of birds singing. Positively spring-like. The Last Frost is coming, I can Feel It.
We grew nasturtiums for the first time last year, and I was shocked by how easy they were to grow, how pretty they were, how long lasting and how tasty!! they were sort of like arugula, but had even more pepper, and of course more beauty. While not the president's favorite green, they did make it into last year's White House kitchen garden!
Today's email from Kitchen Garden Seeds features these fine flowers, and i admit to drooling over my desk at varieties like Black Velvet Nasturtiums. Who wouldn't? Listen to this description:
These sultry elegant flowers are very dark red, in fact almost black. Imagine the presentation: Black Velvet flowers strewn atop golden-ivory Creme Caramel or floating languidly in cool vichyssoise on a hot summer eve.Swoon. I can't wait to order some of these, and other edible flower seeds. In the mean time, I'll be drooling over these recipes.
